Legend has it that back in 1999 Jimmy Lusero fell, hit his head and awoke in a pool of blood. He went into the bathroom, wiped the blood off his forehead and, BOOM! - an antennae burst from his third eye. He was then sent into outer space where he met the Intergalactic mix-master, Toesobig. Lusero was christened by Toesobig as a Humble Hologram and was blessed with the power of the infinite remix. Since then, visual compositions, instrumental pieces, and epic lyrical journeys have been transmitted through Lusero from outer space. As an Visual Artist, Emcee and musician he has collaborated with artists from around the globe, including Brazil, Ghana, Nepal, and India.
Lusero has been drawing since he could hold a crayon, his first official piece was done at age two for mothers day. When asked what it was he replied, " A spider eating my Mom."
Lusero equates the meditation of Squish to a hurricane and the eye of the storm." We are surrounded by so much information and energy, which I articulate through each stroke of pen, brush, or spray can, but no matter how crazy it gets there is always a place of stillness, a point , a drop, where all the chaos calms, the tension unties, and you can unite with your true NATURE. This is my meditation, the celebration of the calm within the storm, and from that place of peace the wild styles of life become beautiful braids of light. Streams of bright colors unite the separated, splintered sense, with the living moment. In this living moment people have seen all types of images in my work. I consider it my duty to create the potential for people to see themselves in new ways, to liberate imagination, to renew a sense of childlike wonder, yet include and encourage the depth and complexity of flowering bodyminds. "
Much of my artistic process has been introverted. Because of the pure volume of expression moving through my body, I have kept more art to myself than shared. By the sheer power of artistic possession, there has been no time but for me to serve what seizes me, rinse, and repeat.
About a decade ago I noticed that my tendency as an artist could easily destroy myself, I had an erratic diet and hours that could only accelerate the aging process. Since I was already studying Global wisdom, from Tibetan paintings Yoga, medicine and devotional vocal music I decided that the ancient system of medicine from Indian called Ayurveda made the most sense to me. Ayur= Life and Veda= science or knowledge, it sounded fresh literally because it was based on beautiful Sanskrit verses that flowed in ways that I found similar to some of my favorite emcees. Most importantly Ayurveda provided a science in which I could learn the art of cooking delicious food that heals.... yum and YES! This is cross training for artists to survive this century, yes many will continue destroying themselves and some strong work might come from that destruction, but I aim to be at peace, not to depict decay, but the calm within the storm. So I cross train for these various rivers of intelligence , i also aim to take care of my interior and exterior, my interior through writing, and contemplative reflection and my exterior through, behavior that generates health, healthy eats, exercise etc... " Divine performances" as KRS one has referred to them.
Each stroke is a divine performance.
More recently i learned, thanks to the writing of Ken Wilber, that no matter how much I do for my individual existence my cross-training is not complete without the spaces that we share. Our WENESS, which sounds like some sort of reproductive organ on an alien species, but it arises simultaneously with each of us. So here I am, sharing these meditations, reflecting on our collective story, you are apart of my story and these images are a part of your life thread. So get familiar with yourself, check out these pics and find what you resonate with most. PEACE "
